THE Stanthorpe Writers Group and Community Development Services have joined to host an event with author Karenlee Thompson.

The former Stanthorpe resident will return as she shares her latest novel and answer any questions people may have about writing.

During her time as an author Ms Thompson has achieved great success, including being a finalist in the Tasmanian Writers' Prize in 2015 and in 2016, and in the Hal Porter 2016 Short Story Prize.

Ms Thompson has also published by The Weekend Australian, Antipodes, Woman's Day, The Big Issue and Writing Queensland among others.

Ms Thompson was a founding chairwoman of the Stanthorpe Writers Group and is now a patron and judge for its writing competition.

She returns to town as part of the book tour and the evening will focus on her writing journey and her new book Flame Tip.

With a forward by David Walsh (MONA), her book has been acclaimed by critic Kerryn Goldsworthy as "a compellingly readable and thought-provoking collection”.

Flame Tip is a collection of short fictions that are as diverse in subject matter as they are in length, all tenuously (and sometimes obscurely) connected by the fire.

The stories are about love, danger, infidelity, loss, laughter and redemption, with a dose of Aussie humour interlacing the occasional grim tale.

Despite the horror, these stories reveal nuances of character and place through resilience, empathy, honesty and humour.

Flame Tip will be available for purchase on the night.

Stanthorpe Writes Group gratefully acknowledges the support of auspicing body CDS Stanthorpe.

While the event is free, places are limited so please reserve your seat to avoid disappointment by Friday, April 29.
