Brackin returns Stanthorpe's support by pledging donation
BOXING: TGW & Smithy's Gym boxer Chris Brackin has enjoyed a mountain of support from the Stanthorpe community during his climb up the national ladder and now it's his turn to try to give back to his home town.
The Granite Belt fighter is donating a large slice of his upcoming ring purse to the Stanthorpe community battling a debilitating drought and now devastating bushfires.
Brackin steps back into the ring at Toowoomba's Rumours International on November 2 against Indian opponent Balkar Singh.
Fight promoter Brendon Smith will also back the boxer's donation gesture on the night with a ringside bucket collection and Brackin is encouraging others to get behind the ravaged Stanthorpe region.
"It has really hit home with me how Stanthorpe is suffering,” Brackin said.
"I have a lot of family and friends who have been affected first by the
drought and now by these fires.
"It's worse than a lot of people might realise.
"I want to do what I can to help and I'm donating the majority of my next fight purse to the fire and drought appeal.
"I've had unbelievable support from Granite Belt people over the years and I want to somehow repay them and help them through this disaster.
"I'm encouraging as many people as possible to get behind the appeal.
"Every little bit helps.”
