FOOTBALL: Football Stanthorpe is set to kick off for its 2017 season, with all grades taking to the field for the first games.
Football Stanthorpe president Chris Haynes said it was great to finally get the season started.
"It's taken a bit to get here because we've been working on this since November last year, so it's exciting to have every division on the park this weekend,” he said.
Haynes said it would be great to see everyone get back into football mode.
"We're really looking forward to getting started so that people are getting into football mode and starting to kick a ball around every weekday, let alone every weekend,” he said.
Haynes said there were still spots available for people to join teams, with more players needed in senior colts.
"We'd love more senior colts to join up, we're two teams short in that,” he said.
Games are played throughout the day on Saturdays starting with the juniors, and Haynes encouraged people to head along for a great family day out.
With so much effort going towards getting the season off the ground, Haynes thanked everyone involved.
"I'd like to thank Brian Westerhout for arranging the draw... all the volunteers that have been involved in getting it up and running and especially the way the clubs have pulled together to try and ensure we keep our numbers up,” he said.
Haynes also encouraged players to keep an eye out for coming rep carnivals, with the first selection trials expected to take place in the coming week. Players interested in joining a team can register until the end of June and are encouraged to contact their local club.
More information about carnivals will be available via Facebook and clubs.
Haynes said any coaches interested in taking part could contact him on 0438802121.
Saturday's games will kick off from 8.30am with the juniors and will run the remainder of the day.
The first round is:
City v United at CF White
Inter v Ballandean at Inter Club
Tenterfield v Carlton at Federation Park, Tenterfield.
