Jockey clubs lap up funding
THE racing industry on the Granite Belt and wider Darling Downs will receive a $1.17 million boost.
The State Government has announced funding allocations to a host of clubs on the Darling Downs and south-west that will be delivered under the state budget.
A total of 29 clubs will benefit from the infrastructure funding.
This will include a sum of $15,400 for the Stanthorpe Jockey Club. Funding will be used for a variety of projects ranging from horse welfare equipment to running rails, tie up stalls and lighting.
Queensland Racing Minister Grace Grace said the funding would help clubs across the state to meet infrastructure requirements in the near future.
"I am pleased to be able to approve this funding program, which will begin to address infrastructure requirements immediately, with phase one to be completed within 18months,” Ms Grace said.
"Our clubs in country and regional areas are a key part of their local economies while also providing a strong social connection.
"They need to be supported and I know these projects will make a difference to racing on the Darling Downs.”
