THE second round of National Rodeo Association finals held at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds has been hailed a success, Stanthorpe Campdraft Rodeo Committee's Paula Boatfield says.

Mrs Boatfield said the committee members considered Saturday's event a resounding triumph.

"We are really thankful for the crowd that came and supported the event," she said.

The pressure of hosting an event successful enough to continue has been lifted off the committee's shoulders, with calls for the event to continue on an annual basis.

"A lot was hinging on whether we would do this on an annual basis," Mrs Boatfield said.

Committee chairman Clint McErvale said the results spoke for themselves.

"The numbers that came through the gate were pretty impressive considering it's a first time round for us."

Mrs Boatfield estimated 1000-1500 people walked through the gates on Saturday, with some improvements already in mind to increase that number next year.

"Our new facilities worked a treat. We will look at providing a few more things for the kiddies to do to make it more family-based next year."

But she said the event wouldn't have been possible without the generous sponsors.
