Rashleigh heading north for rep side
RUGBY LEAGUE: A junior Gremlin will jet off to Townsville in a couple of weeks where he'll fly the Stanthorpe flag for a Darling Downs representative footy side.
Ky Rashleigh has been selected to pull on the Darling Downs under-15s jersey where he'll battle it out against Queensland's best up and coming players.
"We go away May 2 to Townsville. Goes for three days but we don't know who we're playing yet because we haven't got a draw,” Ky said.
Teams from far and wide will converge on Townsville where aspiring players will hope to impress enough to be cherry picked for one of two Queensland teams.
"The carnival is to make the Queensland team. There's a Queensland White and Queensland Maroon team,” he said.
Those teams will travel elsewhere and pit themselves against sides from NSW, Victoria and even Tasmania.
It's the second time Ky has made a DD representative side. He was selected for an under-12s side and last year was picked up to play for the Mustangs.
"That one was really good because it's not a school team. It was harder and a lot of fun.”
Ky and his side have spent the past few weeks fine tuning their play - training together in Toowoomba.
"I reckon it's going to be good as. It'll be fun.”
Ky has been playing rugby league since under-9s for the Gremlins.
He's hopeful he can make a go of it and forge some sort of career 'if he gets the chance'.
"My parents are supportive. Every weekend... every Saturday they drive me around.”
Luckily for Ky, he's been handed the DD jersey he wanted - No. 14.
