Students shine at Lions Youth of the Year challenge

STUDENTS from Stanthorpe State High School and St Joseph's delivered outstanding speeches at the Lions Youth of the Year Quest recently.

While the overall quest also entailed being interviewed by a panel of three judges and responding to two impromptu questions, it was the passion and poise with which this year's students delivered their prepared speeches that really impressed all in attendance.

Stanthorpe State High School was strongly represented by Jaimee Beecham, Spencer Jensen and Brielle Williamson, while St Joseph's students Liam Hitchener, Anika Spiller, and Ann Mary Vincent provided very strong competition throughout the quest.

All involved with both schools can be very proud of these excellent student ambassadors.

As veteran chair of the quest, Peter Watters, commented in his summation of the judging, the strength of all six contestants clearly demonstrates that the future of our community is in good hands.

Congratulations to Spencer Jensen who was named overall winner of Stanthorpe's Lions Youth of the Year in 2018, while Brielle Williamson won the award for best speech in a highly competitive field.

"We wish Spencer the absolute best of luck as he goes on to represent our community at the regional finals in Goondiwindi on March 11,” a school spokesperson said.
